Project Overview

Big improvements are coming to Village Park in the summer of 2026! This exciting project will bring new amenities and important upgrades designed to better serve children, families, and the community as a whole. From new play opportunities to improved accessibility and site enhancements, these updates will help make Village Park an even more welcoming and enjoyable space for everyone.

One of the biggest highlights of the 2026 Improvement Project is a new play structure designed for children ages 2-5. This new area will include inclusive musical and sensory play features, creating more opportunities for imaginative play and interactive experiences for young visitors of all abilities. The project will also include a new restroom facility, which will be maintained weekly by staff to help keep the park clean, comfortable, and convenient for guests.

In addition to these new features, the Village Park: 2026 Improvement Project will include landscape, accessibility, and drainage improvements throughout the park. These upgrades are intended to improve both the function and appearance of the space while supporting long-term use and care. This project is made possible with additional funds from the City of Centennial, and we are grateful for their partnership in helping to bring these improvements to life.

Construction for Phase One of the Trails Recreation Center: Facility Refresh will run from October 2025 through February 2026.

Construction for Phase Two of the Trails Recreation Center: Facility Refresh is scheduled to run from February through June 2026. We will continue to add monthly construction updates below so community members can stay informed on progress, milestones, and what to expect during each phase of the project.

September 2025​ - Project Announcement

In September 2025, Trails Park and Recreation District announced its plans for a full facility refresh at the Trails Recreation Center. This multi-year project will include features like:

  • New furniture in the rec center lobby
  • Two new staff offices
  • A brand new rentable conference room
  • New teaching kitchen in the Gold Rush Room
  • Updates to our community event rooms, like Conestoga and Gold Rush
  • Improvements to our fitness/dance studios, like Wagon Wheel, Aerobics Room, and Cycling Room. 
  • Improved lighting, new vanities, partitions, and modern finishes in our locker rooms and restrooms
  • New paint throughout the entire facility
  • A refreshed childcare space with improved finishes and storage to better serve families.

Phase 1 — Trails Recreation Center: Facility Refresh Timeline

October 2025: Demolition Begins

Construction crews completed several major demolition tasks to prepare the space for the next phase of work. This included removing the game room to make way for a new community conference room, remodeling the bathrooms and existing conference room, and demolishing hallway flooring in anticipation of updated finishes.

With demolition now complete, crews have moved into the framing stage. New walls, offices, and windows are beginning to take shape, marking an exciting first step in bringing the newly designed interior spaces to life.

October 2025: Update

November 2025: Taking Shape

In November, the TRC Refresh project made visible progress as construction moved from demolition into reconstruction. Crews completed major framing work throughout the renovated areas, helping define the layout of the updated spaces and bringing the new design to life. Painting also got underway, adding a fresh look and giving a clearer sense of how the finished interiors will come together. At the same time, electrical installation progressed throughout the project area, supporting the next phases of construction and helping prepare the renovated spaces for future use.

November 2025: Update

December 2025: Electric Spaces

Crews completed painting throughout the corridors, offices, and remodeled spaces, giving the updated layout a bright, cohesive look. New flooring, carpet, and doors were also installed, improving comfort, acoustics, and the overall flow of the renovated areas.

At the same time, electrical work was finalized and updated lighting fixtures were put in place, helping create a modern, energy-efficient atmosphere throughout the space. With these major interior elements now complete, the project is entering its final phase and setting the stage for furniture installation, final touch-ups, and a planned reopening by the end of January.

Phase 2 — Trails Recreation Center: Facility Refresh Timeline

February 2026: Demolition and Early Progress

February brought major progress to Phase 2 as crews completed demolition in both rooms and the existing kitchen area. Once the space was cleared, work began on important behind-the-scenes systems like electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Framing also moved forward, helping shape the new layout and prepare the rooms for their updated features. In the Gold Rush Room, crews made strong progress on the new teaching kitchen by trenching concrete for power and utilities, completing electrical rough-ins for new appliances, and beginning work on the structural support for the future glass folding wall.

Visible improvements also started to take shape during February. In the Conestoga Room, the ceiling grid was painted white to brighten the space, while both rooms were patched, prepped, and painted. New ceiling tiles were installed in the Gold Rush and Conestoga Rooms, giving the spaces a cleaner, more updated look. Flooring preparation also began in the Conestoga Room, marking another important step toward the finished refresh.

February 2026: Update

March 2026: Finishes and Fixtures Take Shape

March brought exciting progress to Phase 2, including the completion of new flooring in the Conestoga Room. This update gives the room a more polished, refreshed look while also creating a durable surface for programs, rentals, and community events. In the Gold Rush Room kitchen, crews completed the structural header for the collapsible wall and continued utility work to support the updated kitchen layout and future appliances.

Additional progress was also made on the Gold Rush kitchen glass door system with new header and track pieces installed. In the Conestoga Room, cabinets and sinks were delivered and installed, helping the space look more complete and adding useful storage and functionality. Plumbing work was also finished to connect the new sinks, bringing the room one step closer to being ready for use.

March 2026: Update

April 2026: Conestoga Reopens, Gold Rush Nears Completion

The biggest highlight in April was the reopening of the Conestoga Room, which is now back in service and available for community use. While a few minor punch list items still remain, including the wall partition replacement and updated lighting, the room is once again functional and serving the public. At the same time, steady progress continued in the Gold Rush Room, where kitchen cabinets and flooring were installed, stackable folding glass walls were added, and restoration of the room divider moved forward.

Looking ahead, several final touches are still planned for the Gold Rush Room, including carpet installation, kitchen appliances, countertops, and a hanging display mirror. With these remaining items on schedule, the Gold Rush Room is expected to be completed by June 1. Overall, April marked another important step forward in the facility refresh project, with visible progress bringing both spaces closer to full completion.
