Complete – Trails Recreation Center: Facility Refresh Phase 1

We’re excited to officially announce that Phase 1 of the Trails Recreation Center Refresh is complete!
From October 2025 through January 2026, our construction crews worked diligently to improve several areas of the facility. While some of the updates happened behind the scenes, each change was thoughtfully planned to better support our growing programs, expanding staff, and the thousands of community members who walk through our doors each year.
At Trails Park and Recreation District, we are always looking for ways to improve the user experience — whether that means modernizing finishes, increasing functionality, or creating flexible spaces that can adapt to the needs of our community. Phase 1 focused on exactly that: practical improvements that make a meaningful difference.
Here’s a closer look at what’s new.
Supporting Growth: Two New Offices for Expanding Staff
With more classes, camps, special events, and community partnerships than ever before, we recognized the need for additional workspace to support daily operations for our Trails Team.
The former conference room has now been fully renovated into two new offices. This transformation allows staff to work more efficiently, collaborate more effectively, and better serve participants both in person and behind the scenes.
While office renovations may not be the most visible update for visitors, they play an important role in strengthening our ability to deliver high-quality programs and services. Investing in functional staff space ultimately benefits the entire community.
A Brand-New Multi-Purpose Conference Room
One of the most exciting elements of Phase 1 is the transformation of the former “game room” into a modern, flexible conference and program space.
This newly renovated room was designed with versatility in mind. It can now serve a variety of purposes, including:
- Private rentals
- Workshops and seminars
- Facility programs and classes
- Staff trainings
The space can easily be adjusted to meet different needs. Tables can be arranged in a traditional conference-style layout for meetings, shifted into classroom-style rows for educational programs, or removed entirely to create an open setup with chairs only.
To support presentations and programming, the room now features:
- A brand-new TV with HDMI connectivity for easy screen sharing
- Dimmable lighting to create the right atmosphere for meetings or instruction
- A built-in sink area for added convenience during classes and events
This flexible setup opens the door for expanded programming opportunities, rental availability, and creative uses for community groups. Whether hosting a training session, a club meeting, or a workshop, the refreshed space offers a clean, modern, and adaptable environment.
We’re excited to see how the public will use this new conference room in the months and years ahead.
Fresh Finishes in the Creative Corridor
If you’ve visited recently and walked from the lobby toward the pottery studio, art classroom, or dance studio, you may have noticed some big improvements in the hallway.
This well-traveled corridor has been completely refreshed with:
- Brand-new flooring
- Fresh paint throughout the hallway
These updates instantly brighten the space and will create a more cohesive, welcoming feel as guests move from the lobby to some of our most creative program areas.
Small aesthetic improvements can make a big impact on how a facility feels — and this hallway refresh has created a cleaner, more polished transition between spaces.
Improved Bathroom Partitions
Another important update included the installation of new restroom partitions.
While not always the most glamorous renovation, improving restroom functionality and appearance is an essential part of maintaining a comfortable, welcoming facility. The new partitions enhance privacy, durability, and overall aesthetics within the bathrooms.
These improvements contribute to a more modern and user-friendly environment for everyone who visits the center.
Why This Refresh Matters
Facility updates are about more than new flooring or fresh paint. They are about ensuring that the Trails Recreation Center continues to evolve alongside our community’s needs.
As programs expand, participation grows, and new opportunities emerge, our spaces must remain flexible, functional, and inviting. Phase 1 focused on strengthening the foundation and creating better staff workspaces, enhancing shared areas, and modernizing high-traffic zones.
These upgrades support:

Every improvement was made with long-term sustainability and usability in mind.
Phase 2 Is Underway!
The facility refresh doesn’t stop here! Phase 2 is currently in progress, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.
This next phase focuses on renovating our two primary event rooms: Conestoga and Gold Rush. These rooms host a wide variety of programs, community meetings, camps, and special events throughout the year.
In addition to refreshing both event spaces, Phase 2 includes the installation of a brand-new testing kitchen in the Gold Rush room. This exciting addition will expand opportunities for:
- Cooking classes
- Youth camps
- Specialty workshops
- Community programming
We anticipate Phase 2 construction will be completed by early June.
