Tall Grass Park: 2025 Improvement Project (2026 Update)
Published: Tuesday, March 24, 2026
Trails Park and Recreation District is excited to share a new update on the Tall Grass Park Improvement Project. Over the past year, this project has continued moving forward through planning, design, bidding, and approvals. With construction expected to begin this summer (2026), we wanted to take a look back at how far the project has come and what improvements are on the way.
How the Tall Grass Park Improvement Project Began
Work on the Tall Grass Park Improvement Project first began in spring 2024. At that time, Trails Park and Recreation District started researching potential park improvements and gathering community feedback about what additions would best serve residents and park visitors.
Community input was an important part of the process from the very beginning. In addition to collecting feedback, the district also hosted open forums so residents could share ideas, ask questions, and help shape the future vision for Tall Grass Park.
That early outreach helped guide the direction of the project and ensured the proposed improvements reflected the needs and interests of the community.
Grant Funding Helped Move the Project Forward
A major milestone came in September 2024, when the project received a grant from Arapahoe County Open Space. This funding helped support part of the improvement project and allowed the district to continue moving forward with planning and design.
Since receiving the grant, Trails Park and Recreation District has worked closely with Arapahoe County to finalize the design and make additional improvements to the project. This collaboration has helped strengthen the plan and prepare it for the next phase.
Where the Project Stands Now
Over the past several months, a great deal of work has taken place behind the scenes. The construction design has been completed, the project has been sent out to bid, and the contract has been awarded.
The district is now working through the final permitting and approval processes before construction can begin.
At this time, construction is expected to begin this summer, with completion anticipated in winter 2026.
One of the most exciting additions to the park will be two outdoor pickleball courts. As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, these courts will provide more opportunities for community members to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.
What Improvements Are Coming to Tall Grass Park?
Two Outdoor Pickleball Courts
One of the most exciting additions to the park will be two outdoor pickleball courts. As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, these courts will provide more opportunities for community members to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.
Vault Restroom Installation
The project will also include the installation of a vault restroom. Like at other parks throughout the district, this vault restroom will be maintained weekly by the TPRD team. This improvement will add convenience for park visitors and make the space more comfortable for families, trail users, and those spending longer periods of time at the park.
New Boardwalk Section on the Crusher Fine Trail
Another important improvement is a new boardwalk section along the crusher fine trail. This addition is designed to help reduce muddy conditions in problem areas and improve trail access throughout the year. It will create a more reliable and enjoyable experience for walkers and other park users.
Looking Ahead
Although much of the work over the past year has focused on planning, design, and approvals, these steps are essential to creating a successful park improvement project. Trails Park and Recreation District appreciates the community’s support and patience as Tall Grass Park moves closer to construction.
We look forward to sharing more updates as the project begins to take shape this summer and these new improvements come to life!
