How TPRD is Celebrating Parks and Rec Month in 2026!

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2026

July is Park & Recreation Month, and Trails Park and Recreation District is ready to celebrate with a month full of community fun, activities, challenges, and prizes.

This year’s theme is “Building Community,” and we’re bringing it to life with the help of our 2026 mascot: the Building Beaver! Throughout the month of July, community members can participate in activities that encourage connection, outdoor fun, recreation, and appreciation for the parks, programs, and people that help make TPRD special.

Whether you visit the Trails Recreation Center, explore one of our parks, complete a challenge, or join in on social media, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

What Is Park & Recreation Month?

Park & Recreation Month is celebrated nationwide every July to recognize the important role parks and recreation play in creating strong, healthy, and connected communities.

At TPRD, our parks, trails, recreation programs, fitness opportunities, aquatics, athletics, cultural arts, and community events all help bring people together. This year’s Building Community theme is all about celebrating those connections, with a little extra beaver-themed fun along the way.

2026 Theme: Building Community

This July, TPRD is celebrating the ways parks and recreation help build community every day.

Community is built when neighbors meet at the park, kids try a new activity, families attend events together, and patrons support one another in recreation spaces. The Building Beaver represents teamwork, connection, and the little ways we all contribute to making our district a welcoming place.

Throughout July, patrons can participate in several activities for a chance to earn raffle tickets and win prizes.

Park & Recreation Month Activities

Beaver Keychain Scavenger Hunt — Friday, July 3 only

Kick off the celebration with a one-day-only Beaver Keychain Scavenger Hunt!

On Friday, July 3, beaver keychains will be hidden throughout TPRD parks. Hints will be posted on our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) or our website at 8:00 am.  Community members who find a beaver keychain can bring it to the Trails Recreation Center front desk to receive raffle tickets throughout the month (limit one per person).

Building Beaver Bingo

All month long, patrons can participate in Building Beaver Bingo.

Pick up a bingo card at the Trails Recreation Center front desk, complete activities throughout July, and bring your card back to earn raffle tickets. Activities are designed to encourage community connection, recreation, and participation in TPRD spaces.

Complete one row for raffle tickets, or go for a blackout bingo for even more chances to win.

Building Beaver Community Challenges

Patrons can also participate in Building Beaver Community Challenges throughout July.

These challenges will be posted at the Trails Recreation Center and are designed to encourage fun, community-focused actions. Once completed, participants can stop by the front desk to receive a raffle ticket.

All activities are based on the honor system, so participants do not need to provide proof that they completed the challenge.

Share Your Community Moment on Social Media

Help us spread the Park & Recreation Month fun online!

Throughout July, patrons can participate in the #BuildingCommunityTPRD social media challenge by sharing a photo or video that shows how they are building community with TPRD.

You can post about:

  • Visiting a TPRD park
  • Participating in a recreational activity
  • Spending time with family, friends, or neighbors
  • Finding a beaver keychain
  • Enjoying a TPRD program, facility, or event

To participate, tag @tprd and use the hashtag #BuildingCommunityTPRD in your post or story. Participants will be entered to win a gift basket (winner drawn and contacted on Monday, August 3rd), so be sure to tag us!

Purchase a Building Beaver Shirt

Want to show your Park & Recreation Month spirit? Patrons can purchase a white Building Beaver shirt at the Trails Recreation Center front desk throughout July.

Purchasing a shirt also earns raffle tickets, giving you another way to participate in the celebration.

Park & Recreation Month Prizes

Participants will have the chance to win fun prizes throughout the month.

Prize drawings will include gift baskets and other TPRD-themed items. Raffle tickets earned from activities will be entered into prize drawings, giving patrons multiple ways to participate and win.

Ways to earn raffle tickets:

  • Complete a Building Beaver Challenge: 1 Ticket
  • Show a found beaver keychain at the front desk: 2 tickets
  • 1 finished bingo row: 3 tickets
