Press Release: Lookout Pool Announcement

Trails Park and Recreation District Announces Closure of Lookout Pool

[Centennial, February 1, 2024] – Lookout Pool, a landmark in the area for over two decades, has provided countless memories and recreational opportunities for residents of the district and beyond. After careful consideration, Trails Park and Recreation District is announcing the closure of Lookout Pool for the foreseeable future.

Over the years, Lookout Pool has been a hub of aquatic enjoyment, serving as a place for families, friends, and neighbors to gather and cool off during the summer. As with any facility, the pool’s age and the evolving demands of its users have presented challenges that necessitate significant financial investments to ensure continued safe and efficient operation.

Recognizing the responsibility to allocate resources effectively and sustainably, the Trails Park and Recreation District has made the difficult decision to close Lookout Pool. Recently, a comprehensive audit of the pool’s infrastructure was conducted, which highlighted some major maintenance requirements. This closure will allow the district to explore potential options for revitalization or other recreational opportunities.

“While we understand the sentimental value Lookout Pool holds for our community, we believe this decision is vital to our mission for maintaining fiscal responsibility within the district,” said Delos Searle, Executive Director of Trails Park and Recreation District. “We are committed to making informed choices that align with the best interests of our residents and the future of recreational opportunities at TPRD.”

The Trails Park and Recreation District will release further details about the plans for Lookout Pool as the evaluation process unfolds. TPRD will also announce more information about the seasonal programming of Lookout Pool – including the Hurricane Swim Team – shortly.

  1. This is so sad. I taught 12 summers at Lookout Pool and feel bad for the residents in the neighborhood to lose this valuable resource. Will the Trails contract another outdoor pool for summer swim lessons?

    1. We are currently working to determine what the future looks like both for the pool and for the summer swim lessons and will release an update as soon as we finalize the details!
