Getting Ready for Summer Swim: Aquatics Maintenance Week Is May 18–24, 2026

Published: Thursday, April 23, 2026

Summer swim season is almost here, and before we dive into sunny pool days, swim lessons, lap swimming, and family fun, we’re taking an important week to get everything ready.

From May 18–24, the Activity Pool, Lap Pool, Hot Tub, Steam Room, Sauna, and waterslides will be temporarily closed for our annual Aquatics Maintenance Week at the Trails Recreation Center. This dedicated maintenance period helps us deep clean, repair, rebuild, and refresh key aquatic features so they are ready for a busy summer ahead.

The Lap Pool, Hot Tub, Steam Room, and Sauna will reopen on May 23. The Activity Pool and Lazy River will reopen on May 25. The waterslides will reopen May 30 to allow for proper cure time following slide coating work.

Why We Do It

Aquatics Maintenance Week is all about preparing our spaces for the season ahead. As summer approaches, our pools and amenities see heavy use from swimmers, families, lesson participants, and fitness members. This maintenance week gives our team and contractors the opportunity to complete larger projects that help keep our aquatics areas clean, comfortable, and functioning at their best.

From behind-the-scenes equipment upgrades to deep cleaning and cosmetic repairs, this work plays a major role in keeping the aquatics area ready for all the fun summer brings.

What’s Happening During Maintenance Week

Activity Pool

The Activity Pool will receive several major maintenance upgrades, including a full heat exchanger replacement by Long Mechanical. The three sand filters will also be completely rebuilt and serviced. This includes:

  • fully cleaning out the filters
  • replacing the gravel and sand media
  • installing new gaskets
  • replacing air relief valve seals
  • installing new filtering laterals

In addition, the pool deck and furniture will undergo a deep cleaning, and the chemical feeding units will be thoroughly cleaned.

Lap Pool

The Lap Pool will also get important mechanical attention ahead of summer. Its heat exchanger will be fully rebuilt and serviced, and the sand filter will be completely rebuilt and serviced with the same detailed improvements:

  • filters cleaned out completely
  • new gravel and sand media
  • new gaskets
  • new air relief valve seals
  • new filtering laterals

Waterslides

Both waterslides will receive a full round of maintenance to help keep them looking great and operating smoothly for the season. Planned work includes:

  • sanding and gel coating both slides
  • repairing leaking seams
  • re-caulking all seams
  • repairing the green slide platform leak
  • sanding, repairing, and repainting rust on the slide tower
  • replacing slide water line rubber seals

Because the slide coating needs time to cure properly, the waterslides will reopen on May 30.

Additional Aquatic Work

Our team will also be taking care of several important support projects throughout the aquatic spaces, including:

  • multiple drywall repairs in both pool areas
  • deep cleaning of all three staffing offices
  • cleaning and organizing the pump room
