Trails Recreation Center Refresh Project: Phase 2 Begins This February!

Trails Park and Recreation District is excited to announce Phase 2 of our ongoing Trails Recreation Center Refresh Project, an initiative focused on modernizing our facilities and enhancing the experience for everyone who uses our spaces. Building on the momentum of Phase 1, this next phase continues our commitment to investing in the places where our community gathers, learns, and celebrates.
What Is the Refresh Project?
The Trails Recreation Center Refresh Project is a multi-phase effort designed to update key areas of the facility with thoughtful improvements that support programming, rentals, and everyday use. From updated finishes to improved functionality, each phase is guided by the goal of creating welcoming, flexible spaces that meet the evolving needs of our community.
Phase 2 Focus Areas
Phase 2 will concentrate on two of the Recreation Center’s most frequently used event spaces: the Conestoga Room and the Gold Rush Room. These rooms host a wide range of activities, including classes, meetings, workshops, birthday parties, and special events. The upcoming improvements will enhance both the look and usability of these spaces while preparing them for expanded programming opportunities in the future.
Construction Timeline
Construction is scheduled to begin in early February and is expected to be completed by the beginning of summer (beginning of June). While some temporary disruptions may occur during this time, the project will be carefully managed to minimize impacts whenever possible. Our team is committed to keeping the community informed throughout construction.
Scope of Improvements: Phase 2
Phase 2 includes comprehensive upgrades designed to refresh the Gold Rush and Conestoga event rooms from top to bottom:
- New lighting to create brighter, more inviting rooms
- Fresh paint to give each space a clean, modern appearance
- New flooring selected for durability, comfort, and versatility
- Ceiling grid enhancements to improve aesthetics and functionality
- Updated appliances, cabinetry, and custom millwork
- Replacement of existing room dividers to improve flexibility, sound separation, and ease of use
These upgrades will not only modernize the rooms visually but will also support a wider range of programming and event setups.
Introducing a New Teaching Kitchen
One of the most exciting elements of Phase 2 is the addition of a new “teaching” kitchen in the Gold Rush Room. This upgraded kitchen will be designed specifically to support hands-on learning and demonstrations, opening the door to expanded cooking classes, nutrition workshops, and community programs. The new space will allow instructors and participants to engage more fully in culinary experiences, adding a valuable new dimension to Trails’ offerings.
