Press Release: Lookout Pool (Update 1)

[Centennial, May 15, 2024] – The Trails Park and Recreation District (TPRD) is issuing an update on Lookout Pool, reaffirming its dedication to meet the community’s needs while addressing misconceptions about the pool’s future.

Lookout Pool is 22 years old; the age, limited seasonal operation period, and maintenance needs were significant factors in the deliberations concerning its future and decision to close it for the season. An audit conducted in the fall of 2023 underscored the pressing need for renovations to address the aging infrastructure adequately. Recognizing the considerable investment required to maintain a facility of this age and size, Trails Park and Recreation District made the difficult decision to suspend operations for the 2024 season. This pause allows for a thorough evaluation of the pool’s condition and potential future directions.

The closure of Lookout Pool has sparked speculation and concerns among residents, with worries about potential deterioration or repurposing without community input. TPRD acknowledges these concerns and assures the public that every effort is underway to ensure a thoughtful and inclusive decision-making process.

Contrary to misinformation circulating on the internet, TPRD emphasizes that no decisions have been made regarding transforming Lookout Pool into a “travel pool” for scuba certification or installing a splash pad. While discussions have explored various options, including potential enhancements like a splash pad, TPRD reiterates its commitment to engaging the community in determining the pool’s future.

While we continue to evaluate our options and secure funding for the space, we aim to provide the public with a rough sketch of potential developments in the coming months. TPRD understands the community’s eagerness for clarity on the future of Lookout Pool, and we assure you that we are actively working to formalize these plans. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents as we navigate this process.

Trails Park and Recreation District encourages residents to share their thoughts, feedback, and input using the form below. As always, we are committed to making informed decisions that reflect the best interests of our residents and the district.

    1. Thank you for your comment! We are reviewing all discussion (including comments and responses to our feedback form) regarding Lookout Pool as we determine the pool’s condition and potential future directions.

  2. I’m disappointed that the district recently put money into shades and fencing enhancements if the pool is in disrepair. This is the closest pool to our house and where my kids took swimming lessons for ages. Hope you can get it resolved.
