Trails Youth Dance Classes

If you’ve ever been curious about what dance classes are located near your home, look no further! The Trails Rec Center’s Dance Studio is sure to offer a dance class for parents and toddlers, kids and youth, and even adults! 

Our dance classes for kids include a variety of  styles and levels, such as ballet, hip hop, tap, poms, and contemporary. Students will learn from qualified and friendly instructors who will guide them through the steps and movements of each dance style. The September-December session of dance classes will also have the opportunity to perform in an end-of-year recital (see our winter special events to learn more).

  • Ballet:  Our ballet classes focus on developing strong technique, flexibility, and poise, while fostering creativity and musicality.

  • Poms: Designed to enhance rhythm, coordination, and style, these classes incorporate upbeat music and energetic movements that will keep your child engaged and entertained.

  • Hip-Hop: Our hip-hop classes teach popular dance styles and choreography while promoting self-expression and confidence.

  • Tap: Learn rhythmic footwork, syncopation, and improvisation in a lively and interactive environment that will have your child tapping their way to fun and fitness.

Youth Dance Classes

Registration periods for the Spring/Summer 2024 Youth Dance Sessions are as follows: 

  • Summer Session 3 (July 29 – September 23): Opens February 19 at 9:00 am and closes July 29
  • Fall Session 1 (September 30–December 15): Opens August 12 at 9:00 am and closes September 30
    • no class on the week of October  14-18, evening of October 31, and the week of November 25-29
    • Session 1 has an optional dance recital in December
  • Fall Session 2 (January 13–March 8): Opens August 12 at 9:00 am and closes January 13
  • Fall Session 3 (March 24–May 17): Opens August 12 at 9:00 am and closes March 24

If you’ve been searching for toddler dance classes or toddler ballet classes for your 2–3-year-old, then you’ve found one! Joined by a parent or guardian, our Parent-Toddler Ballet class builds on rhythm and balance taught in Parent-Tot Dance and introduces the basic form and function of ballet.

Pre-Ballet, designed for children ages 3-5, is the first in our series of ballet classes for kids, and teaches participants basic ballet terms and technique such as a plié, tendu, and relevé in a fun and engaging way.

Ballet Beginner: Start off on the right foot with a beginner ballet class that focuses on fundamental ballet terms and techniques. This youth dance class teaches poise, control, flexibility, and endurance by teaching various positions, moves, and vocabulary to students ages 5 to 10. This class is a great beginner class, or a follow up to Pre-Ballet.

Ballet Beginner II: Ballet Beginner II is the next step in our series of ballet classes for kids, after the successful completion of either Pre-ballet or Ballet Beginner. Expanding on ballet terms previously taught, students will focus on dance moves including tendu, sauté, relevé, and balancé to help students develop a more robust ballet knowledge.

Ballet Intermediate is a dance class that furthers a student’s ballet knowledge. Youth ages 8 to 15 will learn and practice ballet terms such as pas de bourrée, passé, piqué turn, and pirouette. 
*Students in this class must have instructor’s permission, or have successfully completed Ballet Beginner II.

Ballet Advanced is designed for adults and children, ages 10 and up. Youth ages 10 to 15 must first complete Ballet Intermediate and move up to the advanced class upon the teacher’s recommendation. All adult students should have a basic understanding of Ballet terminology.

This high-energy class combines kids’ cheerleading with a traditional dance class. Kids will learn different cheers, jumps, and short dance routines.

This class is meant as a continuation from Sampler Combo or as a beginner tap dance class for young children. Kids will learn various tap dancing steps and terminology like the flap, shuffle, dig, and toe tap.

This kids hip hop class teaches self-expression and creativity in a group setting. Hip Hop is a high energy, rhythmic form of dance that focuses on body isolation techniques and sharp movements.
