Trails Cooking Classes for Kids

Is your child curious about what happens in the kitchen? Do you want to have fun with them in the kitchen and bond over food? If so, you should enroll them in our kids cooking classes at Trails Recreation Center!

We offer a range of cooking classes for kids and youth of different ages and interests. They will learn how to prepare various dishes, learn about nutrition, food safety, kitchen skills, and etiquette. Plus, they will get to taste their own creations and share them with their classmates and family. Cooking classes are not only educational, but also fun and rewarding.

Don’t miss this chance to introduce your kids to the joy of cooking and eating. Browse our cooking classes schedule and register today. Your kids will thank you for it – as will your stomach!

We also occasionally offer holiday cooking decorating classes and specialty cooking classes (like pickle canning and charcuterie board making). Check for those events here.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Q: When can my child start taking a cooking class?

A: Cooking classes begin at age 9 because students need to be able to see above a pot sitting on a hot stove, and students will learn knife skills. We do not allow younger students in our cooking class. However, we do offer Cooking and Crafting, which is for students as young as age 5. This class does not use an oven or sharp knives.

Q: What will my child learn in a youth cooking class?

A: Cooking classes cover the basics of cooking, including kitchen safety, food preparation techniques, basic recipes, and nutrition basics

Q: Are there hands-on components to the classes?

A: Yes, all classes include practical cooking exercises and projects to reinforce learning. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare and cook dishes under the guidance of our instructors.

Q: Can my child request dietary accommodations?

A: Yes, we accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies to the best of our ability. Please inform us of any dietary concerns during the registration process.
