Join Us for the Trails Annual 5k Run/Walk!
The Trails Annual 5k Run/Walk is back for another year, bringing the community together for a cause that resonates deeply with all of us—mental health awareness. On Saturday, November 2, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, Piney Creek Hollow Park (in Centennial, CO) will be the setting for an event that combines fitness, community spirit, and a shared commitment to supporting mental health.
Whether you’re an avid runner, a casual walker, or someone who simply wants to show support for an important cause, the Trails Annual 5k offers something for everyone. This event is more than just a race—it’s an opportunity to connect with others, make a positive impact, and enjoy the natural beauty of Piney Creek Hollow Park. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s 5k and why you should mark your calendar for November 2nd.
Why We Run (or Walk): A Mission with Meaning
The Trails Annual 5k isn’t just another marathon; it’s a movement to bring awareness to the mental health struggles faced by many in our community. The statistics surrounding mental health are sobering. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year, and 1 in 6 youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. The need for mental health support has never been greater, and our community is stepping up to make a difference.
Our mission for the Trails Annual 5k is to raise awareness and support for the mental health challenges faced by youth, teens, adults, and families in our area. Issues like bullying, depression, anxiety, addiction, identity struggles, inclusion, trauma, and abuse can have devastating effects on individuals and families. By participating in this event, you’re helping to shine a light on these issues and provide much-needed support to those who are struggling.
A Partnership for Change
This year, the Trails Park and Recreation District has partnered with three incredible local organizations: Aurora Youth Options, Aurora Mental Health & Recovery, and Ellie Mental Health. Each of these organizations plays a vital role in our community, offering a range of services and programs designed to meet the mental health needs of people of all ages.
- Aurora Youth Options works to empower youth in Aurora by connecting them with positive adults and resources that help them reach their full potential. Their programs focus on mentoring, life skills, and support services for at-risk youth.
- Aurora Mental Health & Recovery provides comprehensive mental health services, including counseling, crisis intervention, and recovery support. Their mission is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the mental health care they need.
- Ellie Mental Health offers a variety of mental health services with a focus on making therapy accessible, approachable, and enjoyable. They are committed to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with the support of skilled and compassionate professionals.
By partnering with these organizations, the Trails Annual 5k not only raises awareness but also directly contributes to the vital work being done to support mental health in our community.
