Features, Ownership, and Future Plans for Tall Grass Park

April 14, 2025

Tall Grass Park, located near Quincy Avenue, spans 9.35 acres and offers a diverse range of outdoor amenities that appeal to people of all ages and interests. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk, a fun game of basketball, or a challenging round of disc golf, Tall Grass Park has something for everyone.

The park features a paved 0.34-mile walking loop, which is perfect for casual strolls or brisk walks. The loop connects to the Mesa Open Space Trail, located to the northwest, offering even more opportunities for outdoor exploration. The park also includes a sledding hill that attracts families in the winter, and a playground for young visitors to enjoy.

For sports enthusiasts, Tall Grass Park offers a multi-use sports field that is available for rent; this field is open to organized sports leagues, which take priority for reservations. Outside of league play, the field operates on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing for informal games of soccer, football, or other activities. In addition to the sports field, the park is home to a basketball court where visitors can shoot hoops or play a pick-up game with friends and family.

One of the standout features of Tall Grass Park is its 9-hole disc golf course. This course, which is open year-round, provides a great challenge for players of all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, the course is designed to offer a fun and rewarding experience. The park also includes a picnic shelter near the playground, making it a great spot for family gatherings or group events.

Who Owns Tall Grass Park?

A common misconception about Tall Grass Park is that it is owned by a homeowner’s association (HOA) or a Metro District. However, Tall Grass Park is actually owned and operated by the Trails Park and Recreation District (TPRD), not an HOA or Metro District. This means that the park is open to everyone, regardless of whether you live in the nearby neighborhood.

As a TPRD park, Tall Grass Park is funded through district taxpayer funds and grants, ensuring that all residents of the district, not just those within a specific neighborhood, have access to the park’s amenities.

Plans for Improvement

In September 2024, TPRD unveiled plans to enhance the park by adding two pickleball courts, a boardwalk path, and a vault restroom. These improvements are made possible thanks to a grant from Arapahoe County Open Space, which will fund 75% of the project. The construction of these amenities is tentatively set to begin in fall 2025, with the anticipated completion date set for spring 2026.

Pickleball has grown in popularity, and these new courts will offer a dedicated space for players of all skill levels to enjoy the game. The addition of a boardwalk path will enhance the park’s accessibility, allowing visitors to navigate the park more easily and explore its natural beauty. The new restroom facilities will improve the overall park experience, especially for those planning to spend longer periods of time enjoying the park’s amenities.

In addition to these major upgrades, TPRD is also working on improving signage throughout the park. This includes installing hole signage on the disc golf course to provide players with clearer directions and information about each hole. Additionally, based on community feedback, TPRD is exploring plans to realign the trees at hole 4 on the disc golf course to make the course easier to navigate for players while preserving the park’s natural beauty.

A Park for Everyone

Tall Grass Park is more than just a park; it’s a community hub where people of all ages can come together to enjoy the outdoors. From its walking trails and basketball courts to its disc golf course and sledding hill, the park offers a wide range of activities to suit a variety of interests. The upcoming improvements, including the addition of pickleball courts and restroom facilities, will only enhance the park’s offerings and make it an even more enjoyable space for all visitors.

As Tall Grass Park continues to grow and evolve, it remains a testament to the importance of community-driven park development. Thanks to TPRD’s commitment to improving and expanding park amenities, Tall Grass Park will remain a beloved destination for years to come.
