Trails Recreation Center: 2025 Play Structure

Complete - Trails Recreation Center: 2025 Play Structure

We’re excited to share that the 2025 Outdoor Play Structure Project at the Trails Recreation Center is now officially complete! This new addition provides families with another fun and unique way to enjoy the outdoors right here at the center.

Project Overview

The new play structure is located just west of the Trails Recreation Center picnic shelter, making it a convenient spot for families to enjoy before or after a picnic, community event, or casual day at the park. Unlike a traditional playground, this structure was designed to blend in with the natural environment while still offering kids an engaging and adventurous play experience.

The feature consists of two large climbing rocks connected by three rope bridges, creating an exciting balance and climbing challenge. Kids can explore, climb, and test their coordination, while parents can relax nearby knowing their little ones are safe and engaged in healthy, active play.

A Community-Powered Project

This project was made possible thanks to support from the City of Centennial, which provided funding through resources gained from the sale of the Denver Broncos. By reinvesting these funds into community projects, Centennial has helped ensure that families in the area have more opportunities to play, explore, and gather outdoors.

At Trails Parks and Recreation District, we are proud to partner in projects like this that enhance the quality of life for residents while creating lasting memories for kids and families.

Fun Fact: Meet the Ant and the Baboon!

While the new play structure is already exciting on its own, there’s a playful twist built into the design: the two rock structures are shaped like animals!

  • One resembles an ant, with a rounded body and distinct ridges.
  • The other is shaped like a baboon, giving kids a chance to let their imagination run wild as they climb.

This creative detail adds a layer of storytelling and discovery to the play area—turning each play session into an adventure.

What’s Next?

Although the project is complete and ready for play, you’ll notice that caution tape remains around the grass sections surrounding the new structure. This is intentional and temporary—these areas need about a week to give the newly planted grass time to root properly. Once the grass is established, the tape will be removed, and the entire space will be fully open.

We kindly ask families to respect the taped-off areas in the meantime so the grass can grow strong and provide a safe, soft surface for years to come.

A Place for Play, Adventure, and Community

The Outdoor Play Structure is more than just a playground—it’s a new destination for adventure, connection, and community at the Trails Recreation Center. We encourage families to come out, explore the new features, and make the most of this wonderful addition to our outdoor space.

We’re so grateful for the continued support of our community and partners who make projects like this possible.
