Behind the Scenes: Maintenance Week 2024

At Trails Recreation Center, we prioritize providing a top-notch experience for our community, which is why our annual maintenance week is so important. This year, we extended our closure to two weeks to ensure we had ample time to perform all necessary repairs, projects, maintenance, and deep cleaning in our aquatic area and locker rooms. We’re excited to share the extensive work completed during this period, from critical slide tower repairs to locker room upgrades. Here’s a comprehensive look at the projects we tackled to keep our facilities in peak condition for your enjoyment.

Slide Tower Repairs

The blue and green slides at our aquatic area are crowd favorites, especially among our younger visitors. To keep these attractions safe and enjoyable, we focused on significant surface repairs, re-caulking any gaps, and waxing the slides for a smoother ride. However, our efforts didn’t stop at the slides themselves—the entire slide tower underwent a comprehensive rehabilitation.

Extensive Metal Work: a contractor replaced support pieces throughout the tower to ensure structural integrity. The structure was resurfaced and repainted to protect against the elements and extend the life of the tower.
Hardware Replacement: Crucial hardware throughout the tower was replaced with new galvanized fasteners, providing added durability and safety.
Additional Repairs: Addressing nearly two decades of wear and tear, we made a series of additional repairs that will keep the slide tower safe and exciting for years to come.

Upgrades to HVAC, Pump, and Chlorinating Systems

Ensuring a comfortable environment in our aquatic area relies heavily on a well-maintained HVAC system. During the shutdown, we replaced HVAC system support hangers in several locations, which is critical for maintaining efficient operation and a comfortable atmosphere for all visitors.

The Activity Pool’s pumps and filter systems were also thoroughly serviced. These systems are essential for keeping our water clean and safe, and the repairs and maintenance performed during this period will ensure they continue to operate at their best.

Water quality remains a top priority, so we also gave our chlorinating systems for the hot tub, lap pool, and activity pool a thorough cleaning and maintenance check. These efforts guarantee that our pools remain crystal clear and properly sanitized, providing a safe and enjoyable swimming experience.

Deep Cleaning and Structural Enhancements

Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities is always a priority. During maintenance week, we took the opportunity to pressure wash all pool decks thoroughly. This not only improved the appearance of our aquatic area but also reduced the risk of slips and falls.

The hot tub and steam room received special attention, with extensive tile replacement and deep cleaning. These upgrades significantly enhance both the aesthetic appeal and safety of these areas.

We didn’t overlook the general appearance of the aquatic area, either. Wall repairs and paint touch-ups happened throughout the pool area to give the space a clean, updated look.

Sauna, Steam Room, and Lap Pool Improvements

Our sauna is a beloved spot for relaxation, and we made sure it received the attention it deserves. The wood throughout the sauna was carefully cleaned and repaired, ensuring it remains a safe and inviting environment for all who use it. Similarly, we deep cleaned our steam room, ensuring it’s in top condition for visitors seeking a refreshing experience.

The Lap Pool also saw some enhancements, with new, higher-quality backstroke flags and lane lines installed. The lane markings on the bottom of the lap pool were repainted, and additional warranty repairs were conducted by contractors. These upgrades are particularly beneficial for our lap swimmers, ensuring that our aquatic facilities continue to meet the needs of all users.

Locker Room Upgrades

In addition to the extensive work completed in our aquatic area, we also focused on significant upgrades and repairs in our locker rooms. Understanding that the locker rooms are a vital part of our guests’ experience, we took several steps to improve their functionality, cleanliness, and overall comfort. Here’s a closer look at the projects we tackled to enhance your time spent in our locker room facilities.

P-Trap Repairs: We identified and fixed several P-traps in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. P-traps are crucial for maintaining proper drainage and preventing unpleasant odors, so these repairs significantly enhance the locker room environment. These intensive repairs involved digging into concrete to access the pipes, repairing them, pouring new concrete, and retiling.
Upgraded Shower Stalls and Fixtures: The shower areas in both locker rooms were completely upgraded with new stall portions, high-quality shower heads, and convenient soap dispensers. These improvements make your post-swim routine more enjoyable and efficient. We also replaced all of the shower mixing valves to ensure we provide consistent and reliable water temperature for our patrons.
New Shower Curtains: To ensure privacy, we installed new, durable shower curtains in the locker rooms. These curtains provide ample coverage and are easy to clean, contributing to a more comfortable experience.
Thorough Cleaning of Grout, Tiles, and Drains: We know how important cleanliness is, so we deep cleaned the grout, tiles, and drains in both locker rooms. This effort restored the locker rooms to a pristine condition, ensuring a hygienic environment for all users.
