Staff Spotlight: TPRD Staff Saves a Life through CPR

Staff Spotlight:
TPRD Staff Saves a Life through CPR

At around 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 18th, the Trails Recreation Center experienced a critical incident that highlighted the dedication and preparedness of our team. An LSS Response (Life Saving Situation) was initiated for a male individual who had collapsed in the front lobby.

Upon arrival, our response team discovered the individual was unresponsive and had no pulse. While other members of our staff called 911 and contacted the family, our LSS team immediately began administering CPR, including chest compressions, while they waited for the paramedics to arrive. Their quick response and training were crucial, as they worked tirelessly for several minutes to revive the patron.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our staff, South Metro Fire Rescue, and deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, the individual had a pulse and was conscious when they were transported by ambulance. This outcome underscores the life-saving power of preparedness, quick action, and our continuous efforts to undergo frequent training for such emergencies.

Ryan Bailey, one of the staff members involved and Trails Park and Recreation District’s Deputy Director, shared his thoughts: “When emergencies happen, every second counts. We’re just glad we could help and that the individual is recovering. It’s a reminder of how important it is to be ready for anything.”

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ryan Bailey, Tim Velazquez, Travis Toler, and Christina Neely for their heroic efforts. Their dedication and quick thinking made all the difference in a potentially tragic situation.

This incident underscores the value of being prepared for emergencies; we encourage everyone in our community to recognize and appreciate the skills and readiness of our staff. Thank you to our amazing team and to everyone who plays a part in making our community stronger.
