Staying active and healthy is a priority for individuals of all ages, especially seniors. Fortunately, programs like Renew Active and SilverSneakers provide excellent opportunities for Medicare beneficiaries to engage in fitness activities. If you’re eager to join either of these programs, follow this step-by-step guide to streamline the sign-up process.

Step 1: Verify Eligibility with Your Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Before diving into the enrollment process, it’s crucial to confirm your eligibility with your supplementary Medicare private insurance company. Renew Active is associated with UnitedHealth, while SilverSneakers partners with various insurers like Kaiser, Humana, Blue Cross, and others. Keep in mind that Medicare alone doesn’t automatically qualify you for these programs.

Contact your insurance provider to inquire about eligibility and obtain your registration number. For Renew Active, this number begins with the letter ‘A’ followed by nine digits. SilverSneakers registration numbers start with ‘2300’ and consist of 16 digits.

Due to privacy, the staff at Trails cannot obtain your registration number for you or confirm your eligibility. 

Step 2: Obtain and Fill Out the Trails Application

Once you have your registration number, the next step is to acquire the Trails application. You can pick up a copy at the front desk, download it from the Senior Fitness page, or click here. The application serves as the gateway to accessing the fitness benefits offered by Renew Active or SilverSneakers.

Step 3: Submit Your SilverSneakers or Renew Active Application for Verification

Upon completing the application, submit it to the front desk staff. They will pass the forms along to Andrea, our fitness program coordinator. She will cross-check your eligibility with the provided registration number and enter your details into Amilia. After the verification process, you’ll receive a confirmation email notifying you that your registration is complete.

Step 4: Set Up the Mobile App for Convenience

Once you’ve received a confirmation email, you can then begin using your Renew Active or SilverSneakers at the Trails Recreation Center! Please see the front desk so they can help you set up the app on your phone so you can scan into the building and start attending classes! The app is a game-changer, as you can register for drop-in group fitness classes or other programs through it.
