Copperleaf Parcel Preliminary Concept

[Centennial, June 3, 2024] –After several months of discussion, design work, meetings, and public feedback, the team at Trails Park and Recreation District is excited to unveil the preliminary concept for a brand-new park located at the southwest corner of Radcliff Parkway and Picadilly Street.

What possible elements can I expect to see?

Thank you to everyone who attended one of our public planning sessions and responded to the corresponding surveys; your feedback was extremely insightful in helping us plan different elements to try and include in the park’s development! Some of the potential features we’ve included are a fun splash pad beckoning families on scorching summer days, conveniently supplemented by ample off-street parking for hassle-free access. We’ve also included a large grass area perfect for both picnics and sports alike, and designated areas throughout the park where nature enthusiasts and budding scientists can observe wildlife and learn about the native flora and fauna in the area.

What are the next steps?

Presenting this plan to the public is just the first step required when creating a park. TPRD will start the Location and Extent (L&E) process with the county, which typically takes around 8-10 months.

Once the L&E is completed, we can then go out to bid for the construction of this project.  While we are hoping to complete this park within the next couple of years, the timeline remains contingent on the receipt of grants earmarked for construction funding. We plan on building this park in different phases to allow for funding, the continuation of TPRD projects at other locations, and continued conversation about the development possibilities of the abutting J3 parcel.

What’s the J3 Parcel?

The J3 Parcel is located next to the park’s southwest border. As of now, Trails Park and Recreation District doesn’t know what will happen with that parcel of land, which is owned by the Copperleaf Metropolitan District #2. While this uncertainty makes it difficult for us to build a park that’ll be seamless and serve the public, we have tried to design the preliminary concept in such a way that it allows for flexibility whenever the Copperleaf Metropolitan District #2 determines what it’ll be doing with that space. We hope to be included in those plans in the future to better serve the Copperleaf community.

In the meantime, we are excited to begin the process of making this park a reality for all! This project is partially funded with a grant from Arapahoe County Open Spaces (ACOS).

  1. It looks like this playground might have a fence around it? If so, thank you so so much! This would be the only multi age playground for 50 something square miles that is fenced in for children with Autism.

Our family will finally have a safe place to play.

    1. Thanks for your comment! As of now, the concept plan does not have a fence around the playground, but we will pass the suggestion on to our team to determine feasibility.

  2. Hi! I was at the meetings and this doesn’t look like the plans that were shown?! Also, why is the playground and splash pad so close to the major road?! That is not safe for kids. If there is anyway you could move it further away from Picadilly that would be great. Little kids often wander and it is just not safe to have them that close to the major road. Another suggestion is to put so sort of fencing on the side closest to Picadilly, but ultimately having a large distance between play areas and major streets is key. I love the features but please think about who will be using the space and how to keep everyone safe in the space.

    1. This preliminary plan is a combination of the plans presented at the public meeting and the feedback we received from surveys to the community. We appreciate your feedback regarding the tentative design and locations and will take them into consideration.

    1. Hi Joel! There currently are two pickleball court tentatively planned for the southeast corner of the park.

  3. Great idea.
My suggestion would be to put the splash pad and playground on the opposite side next to the basketball court and pickle ball courts. I feel there are to many reckless drivers that speed down Piccadilly. I would hate to see them lose control and crash right into the park and splash pad were kids will be playing.

  4. For the courts, would a light be designed so that they can be used at night?

    Also, fencing would be great.

    1. Hi – thanks for the suggestion about lighting and fencing. We’ll take a look at them as possibilities!

Lap Pool Closure

The Lap Pool is closed until further notice due to a suspected broken pipe beneath the pool.

The hot tub, steam room, and sauna will continue to operate as normal. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to address the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding.
