Behind the Build: March 2004

Remember how productive February was? Spring has sprung, and so has the progress at the Trails Recreation Center! March saw a series of substantial advancements that are really shaping the facility into the community hub it’s set to become. From pool walls to fitness floor ramps, and even the installation of the rooftop HVAC units, things are moving fast. Let’s walk through the highlights from this action-packed month.

Concrete Pouring and Gym Progress

March was a busy month for concrete work. The grand staircase in the gymnasium was poured, setting the foundation for this key feature. In addition, the ramp leading down to the open fitness floor was poured, making the area more accessible for future users. With the running track’s concrete fill now complete, the upper level is steadily moving toward its final form, while the structural steel work for the main building and the outdoor picnic shelter was wrapped up, marking another milestone in the overall construction.

Exterior Stonework and Prairie-Inspired Design

One of the most visually striking updates this month was the near completion of the exterior prairie stonework, especially on the gym side of the building. This detail not only adds a beautiful natural aesthetic but also ties the design to the surrounding Colorado landscape. The stonework is a key element of the building’s character, blending the structure into its natural environment.

Myrtha Pools Installation in Full Swing

The pools are becoming a reality! March saw significant progress with the lap pool nearly complete as the Myrtha pool wall panels were installed. The leisure pool wall panels are also well underway, bringing both aquatic spaces closer to their final forms. Work on the hot tub is progressing as well, with plumbing, rebar, and formwork all in progress, laying the groundwork for future relaxation.

Locker Rooms and Interior Masonry

Inside the building, masonry work in the locker rooms moved forward. This phase of construction is crucial for creating the private and functional spaces that future visitors will use before hitting the gym, pool, or fitness areas. These sturdy walls are helping to create the essential divisions and layout of the interior space.

HVAC and Skylights

On the roof, the installation of all the HVAC units was completed, ensuring that the building will be climate-controlled and comfortable year-round. Skylight framing also began in March, a feature that will bring plenty of natural light into the interior spaces, creating a bright, inviting atmosphere for future guests.

What’s Next?

With concrete poured, steel work complete, and pools coming to life, March has been a month of tremendous progress. As the spring weather warms up, construction will continue to charge ahead toward the Trails Recreation Center’s opening.

Join us next month for more updates in our Behind the Build series as we continue to celebrate the growth of the Trails Recreation Center!
