Despite setbacks, foundation work, storm sewer installation, and full-scale bank stabilization launched by mid-August, setting a solid foundation for the project’s continued progress.

In September 2003, the Trails Recreation Center construction progressed significantly, with completed creek stabilization, finished site grading, and installation of essential underground utilities like storm sewers, water, and gas mains. Foundation walls were formed, and initial structural steel deliveries marked the start of the building’s above-ground framework, while curb and gutter installation began shaping the landscape.

Key infrastructure like plumbing, electrical, and the Piney Creek bridge abutments were also completed, preparing the site for further progress toward the facility’s final structure.

In December 2003, the Trails Recreation Center construction hit major milestones, including the completion of the foundation, structural framework, and the installation of the Piney Creek bridge, making the site fully accessible. With roof decking, exterior framing, and initial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work underway, the building began taking shape both inside and out, setting the stage for interior development in the coming year.

Interior finishes advanced as well, with nearly complete ceramic tile work and sauna installations, while pool liner installation was underway, all contributing to the welcoming atmosphere as the grand opening on November 20th approaches.

  1. Wow! I’ve never seen these great pictures but remember visiting the site regularly. The BOD had a great construction manger who was instrumental in keeping the project on time and budget.
    It should be noted that TPRD also built the skate park during the same time frame. It has stood the test of time and has been a great assets for the citizens of the TPRD district along with the recreation center.
    Congratulations to the great employees of “The Trails” who keep it up to date and in fantastic shape, ready for another twenty years.
