Behind the Build: September 2004
September marks another big step toward completion for the Trails Recreation Center. With the building’s exterior finishing touches almost done, and interior installations progressing steadily, the facility is closer than ever to welcoming its first visitors. The pools are filled, fitness equipment is being installed, and even the skatepark is nearing its final stages, despite delays from unpredictable weather. Here’s what we accomplished this month:
Landscaping and Site Furniture
We’re in the home stretch with landscaping, including the installation of site furniture around the recreation center. The landscaping around the picnic shelter is taking shape, bringing green life to the outdoor spaces. The monument sign, which will welcome guests as they arrive, is nearly complete and ready to be installed. Concrete sidewalks, masonry, and Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) work are officially finished, leaving only the final details of the exterior to be completed.
Roofing and Pool Progress
With roofing complete, the building is fully weatherproofed, and work can continue inside without concern for the elements. Both pool liners—the lap pool and the leisure pool—have been completed, and we’re thrilled to report that the pools are now full of water! This is a significant milestone, marking the pools as operational and moving us one step closer to offering aquatic activities to the community.
Interior Advancements
Inside the facility, work has been progressing rapidly. The wood floor in the gymnasium is complete, offering a smooth and durable surface for a variety of sports. Fitness equipment is being installed, getting the fitness floor ready for action. Installation of shower accessories is in progress, along with rubber matting in the childcare area, ensuring these spaces are fully functional and safe. The main reception desk is also nearly complete, ready to greet guests upon arrival.
Skatepark Construction
The skatepark continues to make progress despite rain delays, which may push work into November. Concrete flatwork is ongoing in the street area, with walls and features also under construction. Tree transplanting has begun, with cottonwoods being relocated to enhance the landscape. Concrete pours for the half-pipe and bowl areas are continuing, moving the park closer to completion.
A Glimpse at the Trails Time Capsule: September 2004
As we head into the final month, we’re focused on wrapping up interior work, completing the skatepark, and finishing landscaping. Each day brings us closer to opening this exciting facility for the community, and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying all it has to offer!
