General Park and Rec:
Do I need a permit to use the trails or open spaces?
No, permits are only required for athletic field use and shelter or pavilion usage.Â
What should I do if I encounter wildlife on the trails?
If you see any wild animals while out on one of our trails or in our open spaces, please observe the animals from a distance. If it is considered to be a dangerous animal, please phone 303-269-8411 or email [email protected].Â
How do I report trail maintenance issues, such as fallen trees or erosion?

Are there designated areas for picnics or rest stops along the trails?
Yes, we have a variety of picnic or rest stops near our trails and open spaces. Please see our park map for details.Â
Park Information:
How do I reserve a pavilion or shelter for an event?
To reserve a pavilion or shelter for an event, please see our shelter rental page.
Are dogs allowed in the parks?
Dogs are allowed in our parks but must be kept on a leash. Please also pick up after your pets!

What is the policy on alcohol and grilling in the parks?
Alcohol is allowed in parks, but no alcohol may be consumed by anyone under the legal drinking age of 21 and no glass bottles are allowed. In regards to grilling, we only allow gas grills within park property.Â
How often are the parks inspected for safety and cleanliness?
Parks are inspected once each week during inspections and safety checks. Â
What is the policy on drone use in the parks?
Motorized flying objects are not allowed in or around park property unless prior written approval from Trails Park and Recreation District administration is given.Â
Are there seasonal closures or restrictions for certain activities?
All restrooms on park property currently follow a winter closure schedule; these restrooms close in November and open back up to the public in March.
Can I set up a volleyball net at the parks?
Group activities must be permitted through the districts park department before any use of the fields takes place. Please contact our Parks Manager Sean Bowering by phone or email. 303-269-8411. [email protected].
Trails Recreation Center FAQs
General:
Is there any day that the Center is closed?
The Trails Recreation Center is closed on Christmas Day. We also have an abbreviated schedule for other holidays. To see that, click here.
Why am I not receiving In District, residency rates?
We use the Arapahoe County website to verify if an address is in-district. The best way to determine residency is to examine your Property Tax Statement from Arapahoe County. The Park district advises that you take your Property Tax Statement with you when you need to identify yourself as a resident of the park district.
If you believe there is a mistake with your account, please bring your Property Tax Statement with you and talk to the staff at the front desk.
Is there a charge to come and use the Rec Center?
Yes. You can purchase either a yearly or monthly membership, or purchase a day pass.
Can I come back to the center on the same day using that admission?
Yes, please ask the Front Desk attendant for a re-entry pass before leaving the facility.
Can a 10 year old child come to the center on their own?
Children 12 years and under can access the facility with an adult (16 years +) supervision.
Do I need to have a membership for my child to participate in a dance (or athletics or aquatics) class?
You do not need a membership to participate in a class or program! You would need to sign up for an Amilia account and then register for the desired class or program.
If I have an Annual Membership, can I bring my friends into the center for free?
An annual membership does not allow you to bring a free guest. A day’s admission would need to be purchased, either In District or Out of District, or you can purchase punch passes.
If I have an Annual Membership can my friend or another family member use it?
The Memberships are specific to the individual and cannot be transferred to family members or friends.
I lost my money in the vending machine – can you open it?
We do not have access to the vending machines. However, there is a telephone number to contact on the machine to request a refund: Canteen tel: 303-722-2861
Are there age restrictions for using certain facilities or participating in programs?
Kids must be 12 or older to be in the facility without adult supervision and 15 or older to use the fitness equipment.
Do you have a sauna, steam room, or other wellness amenities?
We do have a sauna and steam room, both located next to our lap pool.Â

What are the temperatures of the pools and hot tub?

What are the swim lesson options for different age groups?
We offer a variety of swimming lessons for different ages. To learn more about our swim program, please click here.
Is there age or height restrictions for using the water slides?
Kids must be 48″ tall to ride either of our waterslides.
What is the policy on swim diapers for infants and toddlers?
All guests who are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper; if you forgot one, we sell them at the front desk.
Can I bring my own flotation devices or toys to the pool?
Only coast guard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool.
Is there a shallow area or designated space for non-swimmers?
The Trails Recreation Center pool has a zero-depth entrance that is great for those who require a shallow area to swim.
How do I register for water fitness classes or aqua aerobics?

Are there swim team or competitive swimming opportunities?
Trails Park and Recreation District offers a seasonal swim team through CARA. We also occasionally offer swim clinics and other opportunities. To learn more about these classes, click here!Â
Do you offer pool party packages for birthdays or special occasions?
Trails Recreation Center offers a variety of birthday party packages – including one for swimming! Click here to learn more about pool parties.
What water safety programs or certifications are offered?
We regularly offer CPR certification courses and lifeguard safety trainings throughout the year. To sign up or learn more, visit this webpage.
Athletics
Is there a schedule for open gym or drop-in sports activities?

Is there equipment available for rent, such as racquets or basketballs?
We do not rent equipement.Â
How can I join a sports league or team at the recreation center?
We have a variety of sport leagues and teams that we offer. To learn more, see the Athletics page and pick your desired sport!
Do you rent your gymnasium? Rock wall?
We rent both the gym and indoor rock wall at the Trails Recreation Center. To learn more, visit this page.
Do you offer private lessons? What is the cost?

Childcare
Do I have to pay for childcare, do I need to make a reservation and do I need to stay in the building?
Children can stay in childcare for a maximum of 2 hours each day. If you are in District the rate to pay at the Front Desk is $3.50 per hour for 1 child, and Out of District $4.50 per hour for 1 child.
Reservations do need to be made in advance and the hours of operation are listed on the website. You will be required to stay in the building during this time.
How can I combine the $75.00 Annual Childcare Fee with visiting the Trails recreation Center?
If you purchase the Annual Membership then you are eligible to purchase this pass. Talk to the staff at the Front Desk to add this.
Cultural Arts
What should my child wear to dance class?
Your child should wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for free movement without causing a tripping hazard. Tap classes and Sampler classes need Tap shoes; ballet and Sampler classes need ballet slippers, and all other youth dance classes need tennis shoes. We do sell ballet and tap shoes at the Trails Recreation Center.
What adult dance classes do you offer?
We offer Ballet, Burlesque Meets Broadway, Belly Dancing, Heels, Line Dancing, and Dance Workshops for adults.
When can my child start taking a cooking class?
Cooking classes begin at age 9 because students need to be able to see above a pot sitting on a hot stove, and students will learn knife skills. We do not allow younger students in our cooking class. However, we do offer Cooking and Crafting, which is for students as young as age 5. This class does not use an oven or sharp knives.
Do you offer art supplies for classes, or should participants bring their own?
We do supply our art classes with different materials. The exception is our pottery class, where adult students need to buy a bag of clay as well as the firing fee, which is sold separately. If you fire your items in your own home kiln, you do not need to purchase the firing fee. This fee covers every piece of art you can create with your 25 lb. bag of clay.
Are there opportunities for local artists to showcase their work at the recreation center?
Currently there are not any opportunities, though we hope to expand this in the future.Â
Are there cultural arts programs specifically designed for individuals with disabilities?

Fitness
Can I bring my own trainer or coach to the facility?
You are welcome to bring a friend with you the the gym, but we only allow Trails Park and Recreation District employees to provide private training, coaching, instructions, or lessons on TPRD property.
What should I bring to a Fitness Class?
We recommend bringing a water bottle and wearing athletic clothes that you can move in. Depending on the class, we also recommend bringing a yoga mat or blocks to help. See each fitness class for specific instructions on what to bring.
Can you check my Insurance to see if I am eligible for Silver Sneakers/Renew Active?
Due to privacy concerns, we are not able to access this information, although if you contact your Insurance Company they should be able to check your eligibility.
Do I need to register for the Fitness Classes or can I just show up and attend?

Do you offer fitness orientation sessions for new members?
We offer a fitness orientation session for anyone who is interested in learning more about the fitness areas or weight rooms. To learn more, please see the Trails front desk staff.Â
Are there personal trainers available, and how can I book sessions?
Trails Recreation Center has an excellent staff of qualified personal trainers. You can learn more about their specialties and how to book a session on this page.
Are there group fitness classes suitable for beginners?
We tailor all of our fitness classes to meet the skill level of all participants.Â
What are some of the fitness classes I can take if I'm 50+?
If you are 50 or older, we recommend taking an aqua fitness class, forever fit, Silversneakers, or Cathie’s drop-in yoga class. To see our drop-in fitness classes, click here. We also have this page that’s dedicated to active aging.

Other Programs
What age does Taekwondo start?
Our Taekwondo program starts at age 4 with our Tiny Tigers class and runs through adulthood!
What is the difference between karate and taekwondo?
Karate originated in Okinawa, Japan, emphasizing a range of striking techniques and traditional katas. Taekwondo, originating in Korea, focuses on dynamic kicks and acrobatic movements, with forms known as poomsae. While both martial arts share some common principles, their techniques, histories, and cultural influences differ significantly.
